Published Work
Review of Ellen Kushner's Privilege of the Sword. 9 October 2006.
"Review of Holly Phillips' In the Palace of Repose" 10 October 2005.
"The Dangerous Duckling: Images of Beauty and Illusion in The Perilous Gard": Analysis of Elizabeth Marie Pope's novel. Strange Horizons, 25 July 2005.
"Hubris and Synthesis in Kate Constable's The Singer of All Songs" in Strange Horizons, 4 April 2005. YA fantasy novel analysis.
"A Journey of Words: Keith Miller's The Book of Flying in Strange Horizons, 4 October 2004. Book review.
"Interactive Fiction: Land of Infinite Possibilities": An article on interactive fiction (IF) in Imagine Nov./Dec. 2003, relating my experience authoring Moonlit Tower and pointing the curious toward other sites on IF. I was surprised to be asked to write an article on IF, and honored; it's a far bigger endeavor than one can "cover" in a couple pages, but I hope I gave the reader a glimpse of its possibilities. It was my pleasure to work with Imagine's assistant editor, Michelle Federico, in writing this.
"Penning the Impossible": An article on writing and submitting sf/f for the gifted/talented high school writer in Imagine Jan./Feb. 2000, a magazine for gifted/talented secondary students. I'm obviously not the most qualified to write such an article, but I made my first sale when I was younger than 20 years old, and I've been a high schooler more recently than many sf/f writers. The editor, Melissa Hartman, is a joy to work with; she can have an article from me practically anytime, for the asking.
"Schrödinger's Pen": An essay in Imagine Sept./Oct. 1997 on writing sf/f, with a quantum mechanics conceit thrown in.
Those who are terminally curious can order the issues in which any (or all?) of these Imagine essays appeared.
