4.5. Calendar & Outline: Treasure Hunt #1, Part 3

"A mathematician is a machine for turning coffee into theorems."--Paul Erdös

Caveat Lector: This is a web-friendly version of the activity sheet TREASURE HUNT #1, PART 2. You can also view the GIF scan of the original.

TREASURE HUNT #1, PART 3

Here are the group roles again:

question person
authorized to ask a teacher the group's questions

reader
reads directions and makes sure everyone understands them

materials person
organizes necessary materials and makes sure everyone has something to work on

reporter
takes notes so s/he can present the group's work to the class

1. Work on 4-6 on Part 2. Make sure the group has done everything necessary!

2. The presentation should talk about:

  • how you made the maps and directions
  • the group's answers for 5 on Part 2
  • what you would do differently "next time"

3. The reporters must prepare an outline of the presentation. (Remember, they may recruit whomever they need for help!) Everyone should konw what will be presented and be prepared to answer questions about it.

4. Ms. Lee must approve the outline. Make sure it will pass inspection. Each person should write a comment on the outline before Ms. Lee will even look at it.

Example: "I like the way our answers to 'How were the directions similar?' were all included, but I'm still not sure where we say what we would do differently next time. Does 'eating pistachios' really count?"

5. Each person should also be prepared to write feedback on another group's presentation (stay tuned). The feedback must include:

  • one thing you learned
  • what you think the group did well

Example: "Zap spoke loudly enough so everyone could hear and the real-life situation was interesting--I want to find out more about astronomy now!"
  • a suggestion for improvement
